Taking Your Business Seriously – Manage Your Motivation

Business is something that a majority of people go into and really don’t know where to start.

They jump in with both feet and don’t have a clue about plans, actions or a strong foundation for business.

Motivation

The great thing about running your own business is that it offers you a lot of flexibility.

You don’t have to live the traditional 9-5 grind (unless you want to).

The worst thing about running your own business is that you are responsible for everything.

If you’re having a “de-motivational” day you can’t just “go through the motions” and still draw a pay check.

Demotivation

You won’t always be motivated but this doesn’t mean that your items on your to do list will go away.

It’s important, as a business owner (and it’s important to remember that you are in business), that you manage your motivational periods.

When you are motivated and energised you should concentrate on high energy tasks.

When you are not motivated you can’t waste this time.

This article contains tips for tasks you can do when you are either motivated or not.

Tips and Tricks for you

Here are some great tips for things you can do when you are feeling motivated.

Lead Generation – A business does not survive without new clients. Lead generation needs to be done consistently but it is also something that requires a lot of energy. As lead generation is energy sapping it’s definitely something you should do during times when your energy is high.

Bookkeeping – You need to track your dollars and cents. You need to make sure all your customers have paid you and that you have enough cash to pay all of your bills

Write a blog post – Marketing is vital for every business. Blog posts, creating informative and educational content (a lot like this post) is important. You can come up with many creative ideas when you are energised. When you are tired you are likely to face some writers block

Brainstorm 5 other blog posts – If you have time you might also decide to brainstorm 5 other blog topics. That way, if you do need to create a post when you are less motivated you will not have to worry about writer’s block as you will already know what to write about

What happens when you are NOT motivated?

Here’s 5 things you might consider doing if you’re just not in the mood.

Do some exercise – You don’t necessarily need to do a full 90 minute workout. A 10 minute brisk walk could be enough to reenergise you.

Answer 5 emails – Chances are there are some emails sitting in your inbox that you need to respond to. This is something that requires little energy.

Return a phone call – Not necessarily an important phone call but you might want to check in with somebody you haven’t spoken to in a while.

Organise a networking coffee – Catch up with someone in person. Organise a coffee and see what’s happening with others in your network.

Clean your desk – If your desk is messy it’s easy to become demotivated.

Follow these tips to help manage those times when you are more energetic and, more important, fill in those moments when you really can’t be bothered.
